Steps To Baking:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Now take two round cake pans of 8-inches. Grease and flour them properly or spray well with the baking spray. Keep them aside.
  2. Take a bowl. Add all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix them well and set the bowl aside.
  3. Add sugar and one cup butter in a bowl and beat them well at medium speed until you get a creamy consistency in the mixture. Now add eggs one by one into the mixture while beating well enough after adding every egg. In the mixture of butter, sugar, and eggs, it’s time to add vanilla extract and mix well. Now add the mixture of flour, salt, and baking powder along with the milk, and keep beating and mixing consistently until everything mixes well.
  4. Now take another six bowls and divide the prepared batter into equal quantities. Now add the red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple gel food color, one in each bowl.
  5. Take any of the two colour batters and put them into the two prepared cake pans and insert a toothpick in both batters. Put the cake pans into the preheated oven and let them bake for around 10 to 12 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean. Let the baked batters cool for around 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the baked batter from the pans and place on the cooling rack.
  6. Wash the cake pans and grease and flour them again. Now repeat step no. 5 until you have baked all the six coloured batters. Let all the batters of our rainbow cake cool completely. You now have the six colourful cake layers for the cake.
  7. Now it’s time to prepare the frosting for the rainbow cake. Take a medium-size bowl and beat two cups of butter in it at medium speed. Add salt, sugar, whipping cream, and vanilla, one by one, while keeping beating the mixture. Beat at medium speed until you get a smooth and creamy texture.
  8. Remove two cups of frosting from the prepared frosting and set aside. Now divide the ramming frosting into six equal parts and colour them with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple gel food color.
  9. Now place any layer of the cake on a serving plate and frost the top of it with the same colour of frosting. Repeat the process for the other five layers too. Use only ¼ of the coloured frostings.
  10. Now apply a thin crumb coat of white frosting that you have kept aside at step 8. Refrigerate your rainbow cake for around 30 minutes.
  11. While the cake is in the refrigerator, put the remaining coloured frosting into different piping bags.
  12. Take the cake out from the refrigerator and decorate it with all the six colour frosting with your own creativity. You can design simple lines of the colours or you can create edible flowers too.
  13. The delicious rainbow cake is ready!
