Cement is a raw material used in the development of houses buildings. Cement is mixed with aggregate and other compounds to prepare the same material as it is expected for building blocks. It is not simple to verify the properties of cement on the site with specific cement testing equipment and that’s why the alternate method is selected to get a rough idea about the quality of cement. There are several ways through which the constructor can examine the quality and strength of cement on site.

  1. Packing date- The easiest way to know the quality of cement is through the packing manufacturing dates. If the cement is placed in a mill for more than three months then it would be advised to re-test the cement quality. It says that if it is placed for about 3 months, then the cement quality strength is reduced to 20-30% and so on.
  2. Cement color- The other aspect to check the property of cement is through the color of cement. The cement color should be uniform which means, the expiry cement can be indicated with a change of color. The normal color of cement is grey and greenish. So, through this, you can make an indication of its quality.
  3. Presence of lumps- If any lumps are present in cement it will affect the quality of cement. Lump indicates the moisture in the cement and that changes the authentic nature of cement. Moisture can tarnish the quality of cement and once lumps are found then cement would become useless.
  4. Patch try test- If you want to judge the consistency of cement, then an easy way to do is rub a pinch of cement in your fingers, if you feel the texture smooth, then is of good quality. But, if you find the texture rough that means it is mixed with sand or any other particles.
  5. Test with water- Floating method is the other effective way to check the quality of cement. You can take a small amount of cement in your palm and throw in water. If cement stays on the water, that means it is of bad quality. On the other hand, if it sinks, then cement proves to be of good quality.
  6. Hands-on cement bag- The other effective way to know the quality is to put your hands in a cement bag, and if it gives you a cooling effect, that means there is no moisture in a cement bag and is ready for use.
  7. Shape test- All of you must like to make cakes. Right? So the other test is similar to making a cake. You need to make a cement cake and place it in the water bucket to check its strength test.

To conclude-

A cement testing machine is useful to check the quality of cement in laboratories. But on the site, an individual can adopt other effective means to know the quality of cement. The above described effortless points can be useful in checking the quality of cement on the site.
