  1. Choose Right Clothes

Cotton clothes are summer-friendly. Make your toddler wear light cotton clothes over synthetic clothes. The synthetic clothes absorb the heat and cause prickly heat rashes. Also, choose plenty of diaper-free time when possible and if you can’t avoid diapers, prefer cloth diapers. When you are going outside, prefer that baby should wear long full sleeve cotton clothes to prevent from direct sunlight.

Keep your kid in an airy room with great ventilation. Never keep the child in the hot room. During the daytime, keep your kid’s room cool by shutting the windows with blinds and switch on the fan or cooler or air conditioner to circulate air in the room. But, ensure to prevent the kid from the direct impact of cool air as infants would catch a heat immediately when exposed to cool air.

Allow you kid to spend good time with water play. For kids below months, do a sponge bath while the heat is all the more besides regular bath and a cool bath before sleep time assists with sleep sound.   • Avoid taking your baby to the AC room just after the bath.
  1. Avoid Outdoors During Peak Hours

Try to keep your child safe from the direct sunlight as much as possible and choose to stay indoors during peak hours i.e. 10 AM to 5 PM. If it is important to go out, take these essential precautions-

  • Don’t carry toddler every time. The less you carry, the cooler he/she will be.
  • Make your kids wear a sun hat to protect their head from the heat.
  • While you are out, find a place with a shade like under tree or umbrella.
  • Avoid outside eating outside foods, even ice-cream, as it can cause infection easily.
  • Carry your fresh homemade food or water fruits.
  1. Keep The Child Hydrated

Keeping the kid hydrated is imperative to prevent them from dehydration.

Give water, fruits, coconut water, fruit juices, (3/4 cup per day), milkshakes/ smoothies (not over 400 ml per day that includes all dairy intake), salads, chilled kheers, and lassis to your kids to make them cool. Also include fruits and vegetables rich in water content and green leafy vegetables such as ash gourd, bottle gourd, watermelon, muskmelon etc in their regular diet.
